The Skinny…Basically

This week marks the end of the fourth week David has been at Ft. Leonard Wood. Only 38 more days until he comes home for Christmas Exodus! I am so happy and it will be THE BEST Christmas gift EVER!

There have, of course, been highs and lows since David left for training, but I am happy to report that there have been more highs than lows. This is due LARGELY in part to all of the wonderful friends and family in my life. David is doing well and is in good spirits, but he does miss home, family, and familiarity. He loves receiving letters as they encourage him and help keep pushing him forward…he is in a place where, most of the time, he is the only one really pulling for him – and I know that must be a difficult place to be!

The worst news I have gotten so far is that the structure of Officer’s Candidate School (OCS) is drastically changing (which begins the last week in January 2011). Originally, we were under the impression that David would be off on the weekends and we could commute back and forth between Ft. Benning and Tally, making the separation not so difficult. Well, unfortunately, that is (part of) what is changing … he will have no weekend passes (i.e. weekends off) until the end of training. So, another 3 months of not seeing my hubs. During a six month period, we will be together for two weeks – rest assured, this is the absolute most horrid thing ever! There is “separation pay” as a part of his paycheck, but I know for a FACT that whatever it is, it isn’t anywhere NEAR what it should be…because (being together) is priceless! I encourage each of you to remember that when you go home to your spouse/ significant other each night…and remember, ALWAYS kiss goodnight (there may come a time when you will not be able to…)

On a MORE positive note, here are some photos that David and I had taken the weekend before he left for Basic Training. ALL photos were taken by David Donaldson of Donaldson Photography. If you like what you see here, I strongly suggest you check out his website ~ he is amazing!!!  http://donaldsonphotography.net/index.html

  1. I liked what you said about always kiss goodnight because you never know when your husband might not be there.
We have that saying hanging above our bed in Colorado, so it was weird that you said that :)
But keep your head up! you will see him soon! :)
